History of the House

The Oakgroves hold the broad eastern commons, where the great oaks were left standing when the fields around them were cleared. Travellers have sheltered under those branches for longer than the ledgers record.

Theirs is the House of open tables. In lean years the Duke's granary is the first to be unbarred, and the family has never treated that as charity so much as good husbandry.

Their crest - the oak leaf and acorn on black and silver - is worn by the road wardens who keep the eastern highway safe in every season.
